Alternative Ownership Conference - Asia Pacific review
Around 100 real estate professionals from Asia and the rest of the world converged in the beautiful location of Putong, Phuket at the inaugural Alternative Ownership Conference – Asia Pacific (AOCAP) last month to explore the market for vacation and fractional ownership in the region.
Sponsors included The Registry Collection, Preferred Residences, Dial An Exchange, Private Residence Clubs, Yoo Phuket and Limcharoen Hughes and Glanville. Media partners were Fractional Life, Property Report, Perspectives International, Absolute Thai, Global Edge and the Phuket Gazette with The Escape as Digital Partner.
The two-day event was hosted by Absolute World and attracted some of the leading guest speakers from the Asia region, USA, Dubai, Italy and the United Kingdom to give the conference a truly worldwide feel. Speakers shared their thoughts and visions for the industry within the specialist areas of real estate development, fractional ownership, vacation clubs and the luxury real estate exchange platform
Presentations and panel sessions included an overview of the global shared ownership market; the growth of fractional ownership in Asia; the luxury shared ownership exchange model; the key factors for success of fractional sales; the fractional consumer; the legal and tax implications; a case study focus on Palazzo Tornabuoni, the European Private Residence Club, and the newly launched Raimon Land Private Residence Clubs format in Thailand.
A distinct focus on sharing ideas and experiences ensured there were strong networking opportunities throughout the two days and delegates were reassured to hear that a number of companies including Marriott, Absolute, Banyan Tree, IFA and Raimon Land had entered the Asian fractional market and were achieving sales even in the challenging economic conditions being experienced.
Eunice Yap, VP Marketing Group RCIA commented that “AOCAP could be the springboard to change the perception of shared ownership and the participants in this event can make it happen.” Delegates told Fractional Life that the conference had certainly raised their knowledge and awareness of the fractional marketplace in Asia and the possibilities for the future.
