Avantair to offset carbon emissions for fractional flyers
Fractional jet operator Avantair has announced that, in honour of Earth Day (April 22), it will offset hours of carbon emissions for all new fractional owners and jet card holders with TerraPass, a leading retailer and marketer of greenhouse gas reduction offsets. TerraPass was launched in 2004 and funds clean energy and efficiency projects that reduce greenhouse gases.
Avantair says its fleet of Piaggio Avanti jets has the lowest carbon emissions in the industry, approximately 35 per cent lower than other fractional providers’ aircraft. This year, the company will offset more than two million pounds of CO2.
“We’re spearheading the shift towards eco-conscious travel in the aviation industry which is attributed to the efficiency and design of our fleet of Piaggio Avanti aircraft,” said Avantair CEO Steven Santo. “Our relationship with TerraPass continues to thrive and we encourage others - businesses and individuals alike - to take responsibility for the effect they have on the environment and counteract that impact.”
Contributing to clean energy and greenhouse gas reduction projects throughout the US, TerraPass credits fund three types of programme: (1) clean energy such as wind; (2) farm power such as dairy farm methane digesters; and (3) landfill gas capture which reduces the impact of human waste.
